Mt. Abraham Union Middle/High School is a grades 7-12 school serving approximately 550 students from four vibrant Addison County towns. Summary of ResponsibilitiesThe Athletics & Activities Director provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of all middle and high school athletic and co‑curricular programs. This role ensures that programs are well‑organized, student‑centered, and aligned with the school's mission.
The Director is responsible for scheduling, facility coordination, supervision of coaches and advisors, and development of the activities budget. The position also ensures that all programs promote broad student participation, competitive excellence, sportsmanship, civic responsibility, and academic success.
Primary Responsibilities Leadership & Management- Collaborate with coaches, advisors, and school personnel to support student eligibility, health and safety, injury prevention, and adherence to rules and policies
- Hire and evaluate coaches in collaboration with the Building Principal
- Serve as the school's representative to the Northern Vermont Athletic Conference, Vermont State Athletic Directors' Association, and Vermont Principals' Association
- Lead seasonal coaches' meetings to review expectations, procedures, and policy updates
- Maintain regular communication with the School Board
- Supervise the Athletic Trainer
- Coordinate school‑wide events including the Fine Arts Festival
- Support Commencement and Senior Week activities
- Contribute to a monthly high school newsletter
- Provide evening, weekend, and occasional holiday supervision for events and programs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, families, coaches, and advisors regarding schedules, eligibility, and program expectations
- Develop and manage a master schedule for all athletic and co‑curricular events
- Schedule officials for all home contests in accordance with association procedures
- Coordinate transportation for all athletic and activity events and provide weekly travel schedules
- Ensure accurate and compliant team rosters, including eligibility verification (health, academic, and behavioral requirements)
- Coordinate supervision for events, including staff and law enforcement as needed
- Manage facility scheduling for evening and weekend use
- Distribute and collect budget requests from coaches and advisors and assist in overall budget development
- Manage the middle/high school athletics and activities budget, including oversight of the activities account
- Supervise athletic and activities staff as assigned by the Principal, in accordance with MAUSD policies and procedures
This is not a purely administrative role – this position requires a leader who can build culture, support people, and manage complexity at a high level.
