Job Description

Marion Cross School is seeking a dedicated, creative Elementary Art Teacher to join our school community. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel inspired to explore creativity through a variety of media and techniques. Responsibilities include planning and delivering engaging, standards‑aligned art lessons for elementary students, managing classroom routines and materials, assessing student progress, and collaborating with grade‑level teams and staff to support student growth.

The Marion Cross School is a Pre‑K - 6 school in beautiful Norwich, Vermont. We value outdoor education, critical thinking skills, positive school community, and appreciate the students and families we serve. Our salary is competitive, with a comfortable benefit package. Position begins August 2026, open until filled. This position is governed by the Norwich Teachers Association Agreement.

Salary range is $52,642 to $104,845, depending on education and experience.

Applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check as required by state law.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, and encourages mutual respect and effective learning.
  • Plan lessons that employ a variety of instructional techniques that, when implemented, meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Utilize district curriculum goals and objectives to write comprehensive lesson plans designed to meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Use a variety of audio, visual, manipulative, and technological materials and resources to support the district’s curriculum.
  • Understand how students learn and develop and provide opportunities that support their cognitive, linguistic, creative, social, moral, emotional, and physical development.
  • Identify possible causes of student behavior and deal with the behavior constructively and according to School Board policy.
  • Assess students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Utilize data from standardized tests and a variety of formal and informal assessments to drive instruction.
  • Maintain maximum supervision of assigned students at all times and encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Strive to implement the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Make referrals to district specialists for students who exhibit signs of educational handicapping conditions.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as listed on Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504 plans, and developed at CHAT meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administration regulation.
  • Participate in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in‑service training, faculty meetings) to receive and/or provide information and meet credential requirements.
  • Participate in curriculum construction and revision and cooperate with other staff to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Contribute to the quality, positive culture, and effectiveness of the school and district by working individually and/or collaboratively with others.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents to provide information that serves the best interests of students, exercising discretion with information received from parents.
  • Participate as a team member on special education Individual Education Plan meetings and implement individual education plans as required.
  • Maintain state certification through approved professional development activities.
