Job DescriptionSamuel Morey Elementary School seeks a caring and knowledgeable Special Education Teacher/Case Manager to provide specially designed instruction in basic academic skills such as reading, writing, and math, as well as instruction in social, emotional, and behavioral skills. This position serves disabled students in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade. The Special Education teacher must have training and experience in writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitoring student progress, and the ability to understand and follow legal regulations pertaining to the provision of Special Education.
The Special Education teacher must have a high level of patience, empathy, and positivity for working with students with any type of disability. The teacher must work collaboratively with staff, administration, and parents on behalf of students, work effectively as a member of a team, and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Organizational skills are essential.

Welcome to Samuel Morey ElementarySamuel Morey Elementary School is a preK‑5 grade public elementary school in the Rivendell District. Rivendell is a preK‑12 school district and serves three Vermont towns (Fairlee, West Fairlee and Vershire) and one New Hampshire town (Orford). Rivendell is located in the picturesque four‑season Upper Valley near Dartmouth College and Dartmouth‑Hitchcock Medical Center. The District also includes beautiful Lake Morey and Lake Fairlee and has a 37‑mile hiking trail that connects the four towns.
There are a number of higher education institutions close to our towns, including:
Dartmouth College, Plymouth State University, Community College of Vermont, Norwich University, Vermont College of Fine Arts, and Goddard College. Teachers can opt into either the Vermont or New Hampshire teacher retirement program.
- At minimum, applicant must be in possession of a Vermont Agency of Education provisional, or emergency license to work as a Special Education Teacher, to be eligible for an interview.
- At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
