Location: East Burke

Burke Mountain Academy (BMA) seeks a dynamic and experienced Residential & Student Life Coordinator to lead and manage the school’s residential and student life program. This role is central to supporting the holistic development of student-athletes by fostering a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment that complements BMA’s rigorous academic and athletic programs.

The Residential & Student Life Coordinator oversees all aspects of residential life, student wellness, and community programming while working closely with faculty, coaches, dorm parents, health services, and families. The Coordinator ensures that students thrive both personally and socially while maintaining the high expectations of a high-performance academic and athletic environment.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of School and supervising residential staff and student life programming.

Key Responsibilities Residential Life Leadership
  • Oversee all aspects of the student residential program and boarding community.
  • Manage dorm assignments and residential placements for all boarding students.
  • Supervise and support dorm parents and residential staff.
  • Coordinate and manage the staff duty calendar and create residential duty teams.
  • Coordinate weekend programming and activities to support student engagement.
  • Manage and coordinate team clean and community responsibilities within the residential program.
Student Wellness & Support
  • Serve as the primary point person for student wellness, coordinating support across academic, athletic, and residential teams.
  • Conduct student wellness check-ins and respond to student concerns.
  • Assist with crisis management and student support situations in collaboration with school leadership and health professionals.
  • Coordinate mental health and wellness programming for students.
  • Provide oversight and coordination with the Health Center.
Community Programming & Student Development
  • Design and lead the Advisory Program to support student development and community building.
  • Lead new student orientation and manage the student mentor program.
  • Coordinate and oversee Community Service Week and student leadership initiatives.
  • Support school community events such as Family Weekend and graduation activities in collaboration with the Advancement Office.
Student Administration & Operations
  • Manage student leave processes and maintain the Leave Tracker system.
  • Oversee term-ends, a community-wide end-of-term reflective writing exercise.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding residential expectations and procedures.
  • Ensure residential policies are implemented consistently and effectively.
Family Communication
  • Serve as a primary contact for parent/guardian communication related to residential life and student well-being.
  • Provide regular updates and support to families regarding student life matters.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of dorm parents and residential life staff
  • Oversight of student mentors and residential student leaders
  • Coordination of faculty/staff duty rotations
  • Collaboration with Health Center staff and student support personnel
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred education/experience in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
  • 0-5+ years of experience in residential life, student affairs, boarding school administration, or youth leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting adolescent wellness and development.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with students, families, and faculty.
  • Ability to respond thoughtfully and effectively to student wellness and crisis situations.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive residential community.
Preferred
  • Experience in independent schools, boarding schools, or athletic academies.
  • Background working with high-performance student-athletes.
  • Experience with student advisory programs or mentoring systems.
  • Training in student mental health support, counseling, or wellness programming.
