The Essex Westford School District (EWSD) seeks a highly collaborative and student‑centered educational leader to serve as our Coordinator of PK-5 Special Education & Therapeutic Programs
.
This 11‑month (209 day) position provides leadership and oversight for the district’s K‑5 Therapeutic Classrooms, supports elementary special education programming, and oversees the Summit Street PreK program. The Coordinator ensures that students with complex academic, behavioral, social‑emotional, and developmental needs receive high‑quality services that promote meaningful learning and positive outcomes.
As a member of the District Support Services Team, the Coordinator collaborates closely with administrators, educators, families, and community partners to strengthen systems, build staff capacity, and continuously improve specialized programming and services.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee EWSD’s K‑5 Therapeutic Classrooms
- Provide leadership and support for elementary special education programming and services
- Serve as LEA representative for assigned IEP teams and interdisciplinary teams
- Oversee the Summit Street PreK program and support district‑wide PreK initiatives
- Supervise, coach, evaluate, and support assigned staff
- Coordinate services and supports for students with complex behavioral, social‑emotional, developmental, and educational needs
- Use data to evaluate programs, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement efforts
- Foster collaborative partnerships with families, educators, community agencies, and service providers
- Promote restorative practices, inclusive programming, and positive student outcomes
- Support implementation of district priorities, strategic initiatives, and equity‑focused practices
Required:
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, School Psychology, School Counseling, Early Childhood Special Education, or a related field
- Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education, student support services, or educational leadership
- Experience working with students with significant behavioral, social‑emotional, developmental, and/or mental health needs
- Experience coordinating special education services, facilitating IEP teams, and supporting compliance with special education requirements
- Vermont Professional Educator License (or eligibility) with an endorsement in Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or School Psychology
Preferred:
- Experience supervising, coaching, or leading educational staff
- Experience with therapeutic, alternative, intensive intervention, or specialized educational programming
- Experience with early childhood and/or PreK programming
- Administrative licensure or enrollment in an administrative licensure program
