Job DescriptionJob Title: TEACHER – ELEMENTARY
Reports To: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary: Under general supervision, serves as a classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten through 5, or a combination thereof. Creates a flexible program and environment that helps all students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. The position may be a generalist or content specialist based on site needs and administrative direction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Planning & Preparation:
Effectively integrates solid content knowledge into the curricula, makes connections between the content and other academic disciplines, develops relationships among topics and concepts, and incorporates current best practices, research, and education laws. - Learning Environment:
Creates and maintains an environment of respect and rapport; establishes a culture for learning that incorporates high expectations for student achievement; manages classroom procedures efficiently; and handles student behavior. - Instruction:
Communicates directions clearly; utilizes questioning and discussion techniques; provides individual and small‑group instruction; gives timely feedback; and adapts instruction to meet diverse student needs. - Professional Responsibilities:
Assesses lesson effectiveness, assists in curriculum planning, maintains accurate records, prepares required reports, collaborates with parents, participates in data teams and school committees, seeks professional development, supports school safety and crisis response plans, and performs other duties as assigned.
- Interpersonal and team skills; organizational/planning abilities; flexibility; motivation; emotional maturity; positive attitude; punctuality; problem‑solving; organizational support; dependability; and job knowledge.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree and working knowledge of Vermont’s Framework of Standards. Recent experience in a Vermont school district preferred. - Licenses:
Holds or eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsements. Valid driver’s license and fingerprint clearance required. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational journals and regulations; write reports and correspond appropriately. - Mathematical/Reasoning:
Ability to interpret test results and solve practical problems. - Computer
Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, grading, student information and assessment systems. - Communication & Interpersonal
Skills:
Experience supporting diverse students, including English Language Learners and LGBTQ+ students.
Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; regular use of hands, occasional lifting of students; ability to handle stressful situations.
Working ConditionsOccasional exposure to outdoor weather; moderate noise level.
