Grand Isle Supervisory Union is seeking an innovative and creative Special Educator.

Salary is in accordance with the current Master Agreement and salary schedule based upon education and experience, $50,000 - $93,200.

Applicants must be motivated individuals with a keen interest in inspiring and empowering students to excel and love learning.

The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will join a team that is responsible for providing services and case management for assigned special education students. They will provide specialized instruction which is not otherwise available in their assigned school. The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will comply with all state and federal regulations regarding Comprehensive Evaluations and Individual Education Plans. The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will work closely with the Director of Student Support Services and building principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain accurate and current special education records for each student.
  • Proficient in using special education data management programs.
  • Have the ability and knowledge to perform the key roles of the special educator within the educational support system.
  • Knowledge of current Vermont State and Federal laws, regulations, and procedures governing the referral; identification/evaluation; eligibility determination; IEP development, implementation, and monitoring placement of students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement models and skills for effective special education consultation and collaboration.
  • Possess strong organization and planning skills and demonstrate the ability to prioritize case load.
  • Ability to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that incorporate a variety of data and multiple perspectives on the strengths and needs of the student that define authentic, observable, measurable, and sequenced short- and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Work with a team to develop and complete Comprehensive Evaluations and Eligibility processes including interpret evaluation results to evaluation planning team.
  • Complete all Special Education and Medicaid paperwork and submit it to the Central Office in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of the disabilities stipulated in the state laws and impacts of these disabilities on educational performance.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop and implement specialized curricula, interventions, and accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Ability to support classroom teachers in accommodating students with special needs.
  • Understands the educational support system of each of their schools and can utilize this system to benefit special needs students.
  • Maintain special education records and confidentiality requirements in accordance with FERPA.
  • Facilitate and prepare for IEP and Evaluation Planning meetings with accurate documentation of team decisions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Valid Vermont Professional Educator's License with a Special Educator endorsement required.

Physical Demands Include: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and significant fine finger dexterity. Combination of sitting, walking, and standing.

Evaluation

Performance evaluated by the Director of Student Support Services in accordance with responsibilities outlined above, leadership characteristics and skill in meeting predetermined objectives.

Grand Isle Supervisory Union is a district with three schools in the Islands in Lake Champlain. Alburgh Elementary is PreK-8, Folsom School is K-8, and Grand Isle Elementary is PreK-6. We do not have a high school in our district. Students have a choice of high schools with three supplying a bus at this time.
