Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is seeking an innovative, energetic, and collaborative Interim Director of Student and Community Engagement to join our district leadership team. We are looking for a highly organized and dynamic professional to provide district-level leadership for student engagement, belonging, equity, and community connection across CVSD.

In this role, you will be a dynamic practitioner and advocate for students with a variety of abilities, working within our school teams to support the overall smooth functioning of our inclusive educational systems. You will use data and school-based evidence to identify barriers to engagement, coordinate acute and systemic responses, strengthen community partnerships, and support innovative, student-centered practices that improve student motivation, academic success, retention, and sense of belonging.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the CVSD district leadership team to contribute to district wide planning, implementation, and continuous improvement aligned to CVSD priorities.
  • Lead the Student and Community Engagement Team in promoting school cultures rooted in belonging, equity, inclusion, restorative justice, and student-centered practice.
  • Procure, organize, analyze, and communicate quantitative and qualitative engagement data to help map and maximize the engagement of all students.
  • Develop tools, protocols, and communication structures that help schools use student engagement data to inform action planning and intervention.
  • Facilitate district-level Educational Support Team (EST) meetings focused on engagement data, patterns of student need, and coordinated responses.
  • Lead teams in developing acute responses for students experiencing disengagement and systemic responses to conditions that contribute to disengagement across schools.
  • Supervise Engagement Facilitators and the homeless liaison, while coordinating support for multilingual learning educators, mentors, and other engagement staff.
  • Foster equitable, inclusive, and restorative learning environments by identifying and addressing systemic barriers experienced by marginalized students and families.
  • Strengthen community engagement and build trusted relationships with caregivers, community organizations, and school-based teams.
  • Provide consultation, coaching, and professional learning related to engagement, restorative practices, equity, inclusion, student voice, and community partnership.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic leadership, systems thinking, equity-centered decision making, and continuous school improvement efforts.
  • Proven leadership and a flexible, creative approach to problem-solving, with the ability to balance acute student needs with long-term systems improvement.
  • Specific knowledge of data literacy, spreadsheets, dashboard tools, restorative practices, and student-centered innovation.
  • Poise, patience, and cultural humility when facilitating difficult conversations, resolving conflicts, and managing sensitive situations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently as a self-starter, and lead cross-functional teams under pressure.

Required Certification:
Priority will be given to applicants who possess a valid Vermont administrative license. A Master's degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, social work, or a related field is preferred.

Please apply via School Spring with a letter of interest, resume, proof of licensure, and three current letters of reference.

This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package based upon qualifications, education, and experience. More information about CVSD can be found on our district website.

CVSD is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to ensuring that all of our students achieve our mission—which means we are also committed to developing a faculty and staff that represents the inclusive, welcoming environment we seek to develop for students and families.
