Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students and working collaboratively with various Department Heads, the Associate Dean of Students (ADOS) shares responsibility for ensuring a positive school culture that is consistent with the mission and values of Lyndon Institute. The Associate Dean of Students assists in the Campus Life Office with issues related to student attendance and behavior, climate and culture development in terms of student life and the way students and adults interact at LI, and developing standards and expectations around the Core Values of the school.

Duties,

Responsibilities and Specific Requirements
  • Be a consistent, positive presence in the lives of LI students.
  • Actively promote a positive student culture of engagement through policy and personal interactions.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to support overall student well‑being, consistent with the mission and values of LI.
  • Provide logistical support for some all‑school events.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students in the annual revision and publication of the Student Handbook.
  • Participate in all Campus Life Department meetings and attend EST meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Students to support teachers with classroom support, professional development, and partnering with mentorship programs around classroom management.
  • Facilitate core value development in the Advisory Program. Assist the Dean of Students in working with our community to define our culture currently and establish goals for our culture and core values.
  • Support student organizations (Student Government, Honors Societies, Clubs, etc).
  • Help cultivate and organize a "Culture Committee" that gathers a variety of stakeholders around the table and implements "temperature surveys" of community members.
  • Organize Core Value talks e or twice a month this position could speak and work with faculty and staff to bring them to the stage.
  • Assist the Dean of Students in dealing with student behavioral and attendance issues during school time. Communicate with parents, teachers, coaches, and other stakeholders about the results of student interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student discipline and attendance.
  • Facilitate HHB investigations, sending findings and disciplinary recommendations to the Dean of Students.
  • Assist the Dean of Students by being a visible presence in hallways, parking lots, and the greater campus during and outside of class periods.
  • Serve as Administrator on Duty for some school‑sponsored events and dorms in the evening and on weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or related work experience in a similar field that demonstrates success in working with a range of students and colleagues, as well as successful experience teaching, advising, or counseling high school students.
  • Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders.
  • Demonstrates patience, a sense of humor, and the ability to see the best in others.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks by volume, urgency, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity.
  • High energy, flexibility, and enthusiasm about working in an academic atmosphere.
