Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to work in Brandon, Vermont.

Job Description

The SLP is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in a school‑based setting. This role supports students’ communication development to enhance academic achievement, social interaction, and overall educational success. The SLP collaborates with teachers, special educators, administrators, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with Vermont Agency of Education guidelines and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include conducting evaluations, maintaining accurate documentation, delivering evidence‑based interventions, and monitoring student progress. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, teamwork, and a commitment to inclusive education practices. Knowledge of state and federal special education laws, including IDEA, is essential.

Essential Functions
  • Integrate current best practices and research to ensure compliance with state and federal rules and provide effective educational programming.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of student characteristics and context and use assessment information to develop standards‑based IEPs.
  • Serve as liaison to facilitate transitions between schools or classrooms.
  • Coordinate and utilize available school, community resources, and outside agencies for IEP delivery.
  • Plan, develop, and monitor extended school year programs for identified students.
  • Provide technical assistance to summer tutors as needed.
  • Administer and coordinate comprehensive assessments using a variety of techniques.
  • Consult with parents, counselors, teachers, administrators, and professionals to determine assessment tools and discuss results.
  • Interpret findings to determine program eligibility and assess student progress.
  • Create and maintain a respectful learning environment.
  • Coordinate services and ensure effective use of paraprofessionals.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans addressing social behavior, pragmatic language, and daily living skills.
  • Identify and implement appropriate assistive technology devices for student communication and learning accessibility.
  • Provide academic support, social skills training, and other direct services individually and in groups.
  • Collaborate with parents to keep families informed of instructional programs and progress.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and modify instruction and use progress monitoring tools.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to parents, students, and professionals.
  • Assist with integration of students into regular classroom settings using inclusion principles.
  • Participate in EST functions, including meetings, referral processes, screening, supplemental support, and consulting services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records as required by law and district policy.
  • Provide information on schedules, Medicaid billing, and other mandated reporting.
  • Evaluate eligibility for special education services related to communication and language skills.
  • Suggest strategies to address student‑specific learning environment needs.
  • Observe federal, state, and local policies in delivery of services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher.
  • Working knowledge of Vermont’s Education Quality Standards and the Common Core State Standards.
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teacher License with endorsement as speech language pathologist.
  • Certification with ASHA.
  • Experience evaluating students with language/speech challenges.
  • Experience providing succinct written and oral reports of student evaluation results and recommendations to team members.
  • Strong understanding of the IEP process and ability to develop and implement educational plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community members.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
