Job Description

Green Mountain Union High School is seeking a passionate, innovative, and dedicated Science Teacher to join our educational team beginning in August 2026. We are looking for an educator who brings enthusiasm, adaptability, and a commitment to student‑centered learning while teaching a variety of integrated science and elective courses to a diverse student population. The successful candidate will foster curiosity, critical thinking, and academic growth through engaging instruction grounded in inquiry‑based learning and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging science instruction aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), including both disciplinary core ideas and scientific and engineering practices.
  • Teach integrated science and elective courses to students in grades 7–12.
  • Design and facilitate hands‑on laboratory experiences that support learners across a range of abilities.
  • Use inquiry‑based, project‑based, and experiential learning approaches to encourage student engagement and achievement.
  • Implement differentiated instruction and formative assessment practices to support all learners.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes both academic success and personal growth.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and interdisciplinary planning.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance and transform teaching and learning.
  • Participate actively in ongoing professional development and school improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements
  • Qualified candidates must:
    • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Vermont Educator License with a Science Education 2-(13) endorsement for grades 7–12.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in the understanding and implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
    • Have knowledge of scientific concepts, investigatory processes, and laboratory procedures.
    • Possess a strong background in general science, including life science topics such as:
      • Cell structure and function
      • Organisms and ecosystems
      • Heredity and evolution
    • Demonstrate effective classroom management and instructional practices.
    • Be familiar with Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
    • Exhibit strong organizational, planning, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Background check is required.
  • At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
