Job Description

Bradford Elementary School is seeking a long‑term substitute to teach 4th grade math and science from August 24, 2026 until November 20, 2026. Positive classroom management and the ability to work as a team to support student learning is a must.

Bradford Elementary School is located in the foothills of the Green Mountains along the picturesque Connecticut River Valley in Bradford, VT. The school community includes 58 staff and 240 PK‑6 students. Our culture emphasizes experiential learning, outdoor classrooms, and a vibrant Unified Arts program that integrates art, music, technology, and P.E. into the curriculum.

• Integrate solid content knowledge, especially mathematics, into curricula and create connections across subjects.
• Utilize current research, best practices, and education laws in planning and instruction.
• Apply knowledge of student characteristics to personalize learning and assessment.
• Select measurable instructional goals for diverse learners and incorporate multiple learning modalities.
• Use district and school resources, including para‑educators and volunteers, to enhance instruction.
• Design instruction, learning activities, materials, and assessment procedures aligned with standards.
• Assess student learning, communicate criteria, and use results to plan instruction and support.
• Assist in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students who qualify.

• Create and maintain a respectful, supportive atmosphere that encourages student pride and high expectations.
• Manage classroom procedures, transitions, materials, and the performance of non‑instructional duties efficiently.
• Effectively address behavior with clear expectations and respect; develop behavior support plans as needed.
• Organize classroom furniture and resources to promote safety, accessibility, and learning.

• Communicate directions and procedures accurately in spoken and written language.
• Employ questioning and discussion techniques to engage students actively.
• Use varied instructional strategies, pacing, and resources to maximize comprehension.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback on student progress.
• Adapt lessons dynamically to meet student needs and interests.

• Assess lesson effectiveness, modify plans, and support curriculum evaluation.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student records and submit required reports.
• Collaborate with parents to keep families informed of instructional programs and student progress.
• Work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external agencies.
• Participate in school and district meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.
• Advocate for best practices and uphold school and union policies.

The anticipated annual salary for this role is $46,738 – $90,067, based on experience and level of education. Compensation is determined by the district’s collective bargaining agreement.

• Must hold or be able to obtain a Vermont Educator’s License with Elementary teaching endorsement.
• At least two years of relevant teaching experience (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to analyze testing data and interpret statistical concepts.
• Capacity to manage diverse learning environments and support students with special needs.
