Job Description

Flood Brook School is seeking a full-time and a part-time PreK Para educator to work with students in Prekindergarten beginning in the 2026/2027 school year! The PreK Para educator performs a variety of instructional and/or support duties to assist the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students in groups or in one-on-one teacher to student ratios. The Pre-K Para educator supports students in all aspects of their education by supporting an environment conducive to learning.

As a positive and nurturing member of the school team, this position understands and attends to a variety of students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavior needs. The Pre-K Para educator supports school teams in the implementation of teaching plans and/or services for individual students as per the student’s Individual Education Plan and/or programs designed by a teacher or other professional as directed.

Paraeducators work under the day-to-day direction of the staff member(s) supported including the classroom teacher, special education teacher, SLP, OT, PT, and under the direct supervision of the Principal. Teachers and/or special education personnel provide specific directions and oversight for supervision and/or instructional support.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy when working with students and will exhibit professionalism when representing the school. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential. Schedule
  • Full-time: 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • Part-time:
    Up to 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday (up to 15 hours per week)
Pay Rate
  • $18.50 to $20.50 per hour, based on years of experience.

Job Requirements
  • Required Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalent
    • At least one (1) year of relevant experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Highly Qualified Paraprofessional (HQP) through one of the following:
    • Associate degree
    • Successful completion of at least 48 credit hours (passing grade or better) from an accredited institution of higher learning
    • Successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment test required in lieu of the above
  • Preferences:
    • Training or experience with special education, behavioral support, or trauma-informed practices is preferred.
    • Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
    • Associate degree preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
