Job Description
  • Provide American Sign Language English interpretation for Deaf students in classroom instruction, group and individual settings, school meetings, and school-wide activities.
  • Facilitate understanding of instructional content, ensuring that Deaf students fully access grade‑level curriculum.
  • Assist in modifying materials and adapting classroom communication (visual supports, previews/reviews, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the Teacher of the Deaf, classroom teachers, and support staff to plan for communication access.
  • Monitor and assist with student participation in classrooms and social interactions — support in bridging communication gaps.
  • Support Deaf students’ language / communication development in ASL.
  • Maintain confidentiality; participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings as needed.
  • Attend ongoing professional development in ASL skill, interpreting standards, and Deaf education.
Job Requirements
  • Advanced / fluent proficiency in American Sign Language (both receptive & expressive).
  • Certification or strong experience in educational interpreting / communication facilitation. (EIPA score, RID certification, or equivalent preferred if interpreting.)
  • Experience working with Deaf / Hard of Hearing students in educational settings.
  • Ability to modify and adapt communication materials to support comprehension.
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to work as part of a team including Deaf culture awareness.
  • Understanding of ethical standards for interpreters / communication facilitators.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
