Job Description

Chester Andover Elementary School is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Music Teacher for the  school year. The essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Teach pre-kindergarten through 6th grade music classes in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way.
  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction, including general music, band, and small group/individual band lessons during the school day.
  • Develop students’ instrumental and ensemble performance skills, with a focus on band participation and growth.
  • Plan, organize, and direct a winter concert that showcases student learning and musical achievement.
  • Lead and manage a school marching band, including preparing students for and coordinating performances at two community events annually (additional stipend provided).
  • Support the social and emotional development of students by collaborating and communicating regularly with classroom teachers in order to support individual student needs.
  • Evaluate all students on progress reports and at end of each semester.
  • Participate in individual student teams, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as required.
  • Develop and enforce a behavioral environment that is appropriate to classroom activity, conducive to learning, and consistent with established administrative policies.
  • Provide a classroom and/or instructional space that is attractive, healthful, safe and conducive to learning, with materials that are in good condition and accessible to students.
  • Maintain records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Participate in other school-wide activities throughout the year, such as committees, in-service, department and staff meetings, and occasional evening or weekend school events.

  • Qualification Requirements

    Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and working knowledge of Vermont's Framework of Standards required. Recent experience working in a Vermont school district preferred.

    Certifications and Licenses: Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License. Holds the appropriate endorsement(s) for the subject(s) being taught.

    Position Type: Full‑time.

    Salary: $50,140 to $95,940 Per Year.
