Visiting Assistant Professor of Premodern Art History – Middlebury College

The Department of History of Art and Architecture invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Premodern Art History to teach for two academic years beginning in the fall semester of 2027.

Eligible candidates will hold a Ph.D. or be ABD in Art or Architectural History and have college‑level teaching experience. They will participate in the instruction of our introductory course and offer lectures and seminars in their areas of expertise. Applicants with specialties in premodern architectural history, Asia, and/or the Global South are encouraged to apply.

• Teach the introductory course in Premodern Art History for the full academic year.
• Develop and deliver lectures and seminars in one's areas of expertise.
• Collaborate with department faculty on curriculum development and scholarly activities.
• Engage in service activities and outreach as required by the department.

• Ph.D. or ABD in Art or Architectural History.
• College‑level teaching experience.
• Specialty in premodern architectural history, Asia, or the Global South.
• Strong record of scholarship or potential for scholarship.

This is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible, salaried position. The hiring range is $92,577 – $96,355 per year.
