Special Education Teacher

This maternity leave position is designed for a dedicated Special Education Teacher who thrives in structured learning environments and is passionate about making a difference with K-4 students. The assignment runs from August 21st through early January, aligning with the academic calendar—students return August 26th.
You’ll manage a caseload of approximately 10-15 students (last year’s average was 12) with a range of abilities, including learning disabilities, health impairments, and those on the autism spectrum. The school highly values educators with expertise in structured literacy approaches—training or experience with Orton Gillingham or Wilson is a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to diverse needs
- Deliver engaging instruction using evidence-based, structured learning methodologies
- Collaborate seamlessly with general educators, support staff, and families
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can thrive
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with regulations
- Attend relevant meetings and contribute to a supportive school culture
Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification
- Previous experience in elementary school settings, preferably K-4
- Strong foundation in structured literacy interventions (Orton Gillingham or Wilson)
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Adaptability in managing a varied caseload with a collaborative mindset
Work full-time for 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a daily 40-minute prep and planning period to support work-life balance and instructional quality.
