St. Johnsbury School District is seeking a special educator to add to the school team for next school year. The St. Johnsbury School District serves more than 1,000 students, Pre-K through 8th grade and tuitions our high school students to several area public and independent high schools. St. Johnsbury School District has approximately 550 students in Prek to Grade 8 and approximately 200 full-time employees all in one school.
We have an excellent outdoor educational space, new playgrounds and a dedicated team with an emphasis on employee wellness. We are located 4 minutes from I-91 at Exit 21.
We are looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist to work 40% of the time (.40
FTE).
Job Summary:
The Saint Johnsbury School seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist to work collaboratively with, and in support of, classroom teachers, para educators, parents, special educators, and speech consultants, and each other to ensure that the needs are met for students with communication delays. They provide services that support a student to access their specialized instruction.
General Responsibilities:
- Provides speech and language screening for students age-3 to grade 12 by referral from classroom teachers, parents, and other professional staff.
- Assists in district screening for pre-k and kindergarten students.
- Provides speech and language assessment for those students identified as having possible delays in speech and/or language as a result of a screening and/or referral.
- Follows district special education procedures and policies, including compliance with the VT Special Education Regulations.
- Maintains all appropriate documentation including Medicaid.
- Develops the speech and language component of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for eligible students in conjunction with the Evaluation and Planning Team (EPT) and for eligible students under Section 504.
- Provides speech and language services to students as specified in their IEPs. May provide speech and/or language services through 504 and EST Plans.
- Consults with teachers, parents/guardians, para educators, and other professional staff regarding classroom implementation of speech and/or language goals, objectives, and accommodations relative to student progress.
- Reviews, selects, and recommends assessment and instructional tools to meet the needs of students with speech, language, and/or hearing disabilities.
- Remains current with professional publications, organizations, conferences, and/or
- Informs the Director of Student Support Services and/or Superintendent of program activities and status.
Qualifications:
- The position requires a master's degree.
- Holds or able to hold a Vermont Speech Language Pathologist Educators license as well as a clinical license.
- ASHA certification (preferred).
- Display strong communication skills (written and oral).
Compensation and Benefits
Salary follows the Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based on years of experience and educational level. Teachers get vested in the State Teacher's Pension after 5 years of service. Teachers work 186 days each school year. Teachers receive 15 sick days, 5 personal days, 5 bereavement days. BCBS of Vermont is the health insurance. The employer pays the first $1900 for single coverage or $4000 for multi-person plan of the out of pocket costs plus 100% of prescription costs.
