Samuel Morey Elementary School in Fairlee, VT seeks a caring, capable, and compassionate intensive needs special education para educator to provide 1:1 personal care and instructional support in basic academic skills such as reading, writing, and math, as well as instructional support in social, emotional, and behavioral skills. This position requires sensitivity and empathy for working effectively and supportively with an elementary-aged student with significant special needs.
Prior experience working with disabled individuals is desired, but training is available.
The intensive needs para educator must work collaboratively with teachers, the principal, and special education service providers on behalf of their assigned student. The intensive needs para educator must work effectively as a member of a team, and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Organizational skills are essential.
This position is eligible for an additional intensive needs stipend.

Samuel Morey Elementary School is a preK-5 grade public elementary school in the Rivendell District.
Rivendell is a preK-12 school district and serves three Vermont towns (Fairlee, West Fairlee and Vershire) and one New Hampshire town (Orford).Rivendell is located in the picturesque four-season Upper Valley near Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The District also includes beautiful Lake Morey and Lake Fairlee and has a 37-mile hiking trail that connects the four towns.
There are a number of higher education institutions close to our towns, including:
Dartmouth College, Plymouth State University, Community College of Vermont, Norwich University, Vermont College of Fine Arts, and Goddard College.
Teachers can opt into either the Vermont or New Hampshire teacher retirement program.
- At a minimum, a high school diploma is necessary. Additionally, the intensive needs special education para educator must either already be "Highly Qualified" or meet one of the following criteria: have passed the Para Pro Praxis, have earned a minimum of 60 college credits, possess an associates degree, or complete a series of Title I training module to achieve "Highly Qualified" para educator status.
