The Elementary School Counselor will play an important role in supporting students’ social-emotional well-being and helping foster positive, inclusive, and emotionally safe learning environments. Working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and other school professionals, the counselor will provide classroom, small-group, and individual support to help students develop the skills they need to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support school-wide efforts that promote kindness, inclusion, belonging, and a positive school climate.
  • Deliver classroom-based Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction, including use of the Second Step curriculum.
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling and support to help students develop coping skills, navigate peer relationships, resolve conflicts, and strengthen social-emotional skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other professionals to develop, implement, and monitor individualized student behavior intervention plans and supports.
  • Provide timely support, de-escalation, and crisis response for students experiencing emotional or behavioral distress.
  • Partner with families and staff to identify strategies and resources that support student success at school and at home.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of school-based student support teams and contribute to coordinated systems of student support.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
  • Valid Vermont Educator License with the appropriate endorsement.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with the Second Step curriculum is preferred.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, de-escalation, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across two school communities and as part of collaborative school teams.
  • Successful completion of required criminal background checks.
What We Offer
  • Supportive, close-knit school communities.
  • Small class sizes and opportunities to develop meaningful relationships with students and families.
  • A collaborative professional environment.
  • Professional learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive salary and benefits in accordance with applicable agreements and MVSU policies.
