Summary Of RoleGlobal Foundries' Fab 9 is seeking a Sr. Technician for Microelectronics Failure Analysis to join our advanced analytical laboratory in Essex Junction, Vermont. This hands‑on role supports high‑volume semiconductor manufacturing, yield learning, and root‑cause analysis through physical failure analysis techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). This position is ideal for candidates with a strong technical foundation and interest in microscopy and failure analysis.
While prior SEM experience is preferred, motivated candidates with related technical backgrounds will receive training and development to build expertise in advanced analytical methods. Technicians in this role will work closely with experienced engineers and senior lab staff to develop analytical skills and contribute to impactful investigations supporting Fab 9 operations.
- Perform SEM‑based failure analysis to support yield, reliability, and manufacturing investigations
- Prepare samples for analysis using techniques such as mechanical cleaving, polishing, and focused ion beam (FIB) milling along with wet and dry chemical etching
- Assist in selecting and optimizing SEM imaging conditions to capture high‑quality data
- Analyze and document results with guidance from engineers and other senior technicians
- Collaborate with failure analysis engineers to support investigation strategies and sample preparation approaches
- Follow established procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of lab practices
- Support tool maintenance activities and ensure safe operation of laboratory equipment
- Participate in training programs to develop deeper expertise in SEM operation, interpretation, and advanced techniques
- Contribute to a strong safety, quality, and teamwork culture within the lab
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
- Other duties as assigned by manager / supervisor
- Education:
Associate’s degree (2‑year technical degree) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Math, or a related discipline OR equivalent military technical training - Experience:
2-4 years' relevant technical laboratory or manufacturing experience - Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to learn new technical concepts and operate complex equipment
- Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- Fluency in English language (both written and verbal)
- Education:
Bachelors degree (4-year degree) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Math, or a related discipline - Experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) or other microscopy techniques
- Experience working in a semiconductor fab, cleanroom, or technical laboratory environment
- Familiarity with sample preparation techniques (e.g., cleaving, polishing, chemical etching)
- Exposure to failure analysis, materials characterization, or process troubleshooting
- Experience with data documentation and reporting in technical environments
$48,200.00 - $83,200.00
