Electrical Engineering, Test Engineer, Systems Engineer
NRG Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the Solar Applications Engineering team. This role is at the core of how NRG designs and delivers Solar Resource Monitor (SRM) and Solar Resource Assessment (SRA) systems to utility‑scale PV projects worldwide. The engineer in this role owns the electrical diagrams within the broader system drawing package that accompanies every project deployment—creating, updating, and maintaining the wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and configuration documentation that define how Met Stations are built and installed at customer sites.
They also contribute to non‑project engineering work including new component evaluation, panel and power supply design, and technical support to Sales and the field team.
- Create new and update existing electrical drawings for SRM and SRA deployments, including panel layouts, sensor wiring diagrams, and single‑line diagrams for meteorological tower stations across a wide range of project configurations (single‑station to multi‑station utility‑scale solar sites)
- Coordinate drawing package revisions through project milestones (30%, 60%, IFC) in collaboration with Project Management and customer engineering review teams from EPC contractors and project owners
- Design using best practices and document shelter box electrical panel layouts for SRM configurations, including data loggers, charge controllers, media converters, modems, power supplies, and protection devices
- Support power supply and protection design work in collaboration with Hardware Engineering
- Interpret and apply relevant electrical standards—such as NFPA 70, UL listings, and IEC 61724 and IEC 61010—in the design of SRM electrical systems
- Identify, define, and release new components (e.g., sensors, cabling, and panel components) to support standard and project‑specific system requirements
- Support system assembly builds, reviewing drawing packages against production BOMs and order configurations to ensure accuracy before units ship to customer sites
- Contribute to installation instructions, wiring guides, and field documentation used by Tech Services and installation crews during site commissioning, in coordination with Tech Services and Project Management
- Provide technical expertise to Sales and Project Management teams to support customer requests and field installation needs, including custom station configurations such as BESS‑integrated MET stations, tracker‑mounted configurations, distributed station networks, and soiling measurement systems
- Support evaluation, testing, and validation of new solar sensors and peripheral equipment (pyranometers, soiling monitors, back‑of‑module temperature sensors, anemometers) for integration into NRG’s standard configurations and BOMs
- Participate in design reviews for new product introductions within Systems Engineering
- Contribute to hardware‑level investigations and field issue root cause analysis when problems are reported from deployed sites
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
- 3–5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with direct, hands‑on experience producing wiring diagrams and electrical panel layouts (industrial instrumentation, energy, or field measurement systems preferred)
- Proficiency with CAD‑based electrical schematic and panel layout tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Solid Works Electrical, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with electrical standards applicable to solar instrumentation and electrical installations, such as NFPA 70, UL listings, and IEC 61724 and IEC 61010
- Experience with low‑voltage DC systems, sensor signal wiring, and cable routing in outdoor enclosures or harsh‑environment field installations
- Strong written communication and documentation skills; ability to produce clear, accurate engineering drawings and supporting technical documents for both internal and customer‑facing use
- Comfortable managing multiple active projects simultaneously in a project engineering environment with defined customer delivery milestones
