We are looking for a full‑time Clinical Assistant in our Concord office location. The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care, which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, communicating effectively with others, and partnering with the physician or mid‑level provider in the delivery of patient care.
- Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems
- Completing phone triage
- Casting and bracing
- Performing routine office procedures
- Providing patient education
- Knowledge of EMR (Epic)
- Ability to triage patient telephone calls and gather pertinent facts accurately and concisely to assess patient health status and act as liaison between patient and provider
- Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to orthopedic problems
- Effective and clear communication with patients, physicians, mid‑level providers and co‑workers
- Responsive to questions and able to provide appropriate answers
- Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing, or equivalent experience plus certification
- Certification required: registered or certified through one of the following national organizations:
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) - EMTs must hold Emergency Medical Technician certification pursuant to national guidelines; state certification required upon recertification
- ATCs must be board certified as Athletic Trainer
- New graduates are welcome
- Travel to other Ortho Carolina locations may be required
A typical day for the Clinical Assistant involves collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner to ensure the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient care. The Clinical Assistant greets patients and escorts them to the exam room, obtains and documents past medical/surgical histories, vitals, medications, and allergies in the EHR system (Epic). The role assists the practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in‑office procedures, and cleans and sterilizes rooms and equipment after each encounter.
Day‑to‑day tasks include suture/staple removal, assisting with casting/bracing, and assisting with injections. The Clinical Assistant also educates patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures as instructed by the physician and orchestrates administrative duties such as ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, and monitoring work queues in the EHR system.
