Position: BFH SCD Registry Epidemiologist - Coordinator 2
Location: Irasburg

Job Summary

Interprets, analyzes, validates, and evaluates data using statistical computer programs. Works independently to explore new datasets, identify basic data quality issues, and determine whether to resolve issues independently or to migrate. Conducts routine data linkages and collaborates with the LDH Office of Technology Services, Vital Records, Bureau of Health Informatics, Newborn Screening Program, and Medicaid Office to develop and enhance data systems, linkages, case identification, and case review related to assigned data systems and programs.

Manages confidentiality and security of data according to state and federal regulations.

Serves as resident data and evaluation expert for the Louisiana Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Registry by researching and identifying existing data sources, assisting with establishing appropriate data points in electronic medical records as needed, and helping oversee the development of the registry using CDC guidance. Understands data warehouse concepts, examines linkages with data sources on a regular basis to resolve systematic case identification errors, and helps develop and maintain the technical manual with protocols and processes for the registry.

Analyzes data using SAS, R or similar statistical software and SQL for data requests, routine reports, and research. Participates in analytic work groups, designs and implements evaluation of the registry, manages data quality improvement, assists with grant-related activities, coordinates with programs and community to move data to action, and oversees reporting for the registry. Ensures data integrity for data housed and linked to the registry, performs data entry and editing as needed, provides technical assistance to professionals in government, academia, health care, community and private sector, and contributes to the public health evidence base through publications and presentations.

Reports on SCD indicators in Louisiana, monitors trends, and provides routine surveillance reports to stakeholders. Serves as the primary analytic point of contact for data requests and coordinates with other epidemiologists. Participates in webinars, staff meetings, CQI on the registry, and supports coordination and management of emergency operations.

Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor’s degree, or Associate’s degree plus 3 years of professional experience, or 6 years of professional work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience performing administrative functions within an office environment or health care field.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills; effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Great attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Ability to manage projects, assignments, and competing priorities.
  • Proficient in Zoom, Teams, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Desired (Preferred)
  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience performing administrative functions within an office environment or health care field.
  • Minimum 1 year professional epidemiology experience.
  • Minimum 1 year professional experience with statistical analysis packages (SAS and/or STATA or R).
  • Minimum 1 year professional experience with public health surveillance and/or registry operations/analytics.
Salary

$55,000–$65,000.
