Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Pharmacist

As a Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Pharmacist, you will provide specialized pharmaceutical care in a fast‑paced outpatient oncology setting.

• Provide all aspects of pharmaceutical care, ensuring safe and appropriate medication use for oncology and hematology patients.
• Manage selected drug therapies, including chemotherapy and supportive‑care regimens.
• Oversee dispensing, compounding, labeling, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
• Educate patients, nurses, and physicians on medication therapy, side effects, and treatment plans specific to oncology care.
• Manage daily pharmacy workflow within a specialized outpatient cancer center.
• Supervise, train, and validate work performed by Pharmacy Technicians, Clerks, Intern Pharmacists, and newly hired Pharmacists.
• Support a high‑volume, highly specialized department that requires advanced clinical knowledge and collaboration with oncology providers.

• Education:
  
  Doctorate Degree in Pharm.
  
  D. or B.S. Degree in Pharmacy required.
• Work Experience:
  
  1 year hospital, retail, or related pharmacy experience required; oncology or hematology pharmacy experience preferred.
• Licensure:
  Registered Pharmacist in the State of Georgia required.

• Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
• Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
• Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
• Uses correct terminology.
• Conforms to required style and format.

• Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
• Understands equipment operation.
• Maintains equipment in working order.
• Troubleshoots equipment problems.
• Uses technology to increase productivity.
• Adapts to new technology.

• Supervises technical and support staff and manages departmental responsibilities.
• Directs daily workflow processes.
• Provides direction, gains compliance, and assumes responsibility for technical and support staff.
• Assists with training and development of pharmacy staff (technicians, support staff, other pharmacists).
• Gives input and feedback for yearly evaluations.

• Develops and demonstrates competency in core pharmacist functions relevant to oncology care.
• Order processing/profile review – assessment for safety, efficacy, appropriateness, and accuracy.
• Pharmacokinetics.
• Anticoagulation.
• Renal dose monitoring.
• Nutrition support.
• Antibiotic stewardship.
• Formulary management.

• Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
• Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission, and vision of the organization.
• Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (e.g., self‑education, attends ongoing educational programs).
• Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in‑services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
• Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
• For non‑clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age‑specific customer service skills.
• Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
