Overview

Hannaford Supermarkets seeks a Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) or Supervising Pharmacist (SP) to ensure regulatory compliance with Federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations, lead the pharmacy department, and contribute to the growth of the business while delivering outstanding customer service. This role reports to store leadership and works with the pharmacy team to maintain high standards of safety, service, and community engagement.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) or Supervising Pharmacist (SP) as required.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with Federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Manage the financial performance of the department, including sales growth, maximizing gross margins and productivity, controlling inventory, payroll, and expenses.
  • Understand and comply with the Pharmacy Standard Practice Manual; communicate standards to other department personnel as needed.
  • Oversee the daily office operations of the pharmacy department.
  • Promote and participate in growing the pharmacy business through company initiatives and community relationships.
  • Perform immunizations according to Company standards and expectations.
  • Ensure that all pharmacy department personnel provide outstanding customer service.
  • Develop, train, and manage staff pharmacists; assist in interviewing potential hires.
  • Hire, train, and develop pharmacy technicians and support staff.
  • Collaborate with the in-store trainer and pharmacy training specialist to ensure proper and efficient training of all pharmacy personnel.
  • Manage performance and documentation of all department personnel through annual performance assessments and ongoing coaching and disciplinary efforts.
  • Exercise good judgment in delegation, assignment, and follow-up for efficient department performance; coordinate scheduling of technicians and fixed activities.
  • Maintain a broad understanding of the MPP scheduling system; coordinate weekly scheduling needs for pharmacists (vacation coverage, etc.).
  • Adhere to Company safety standards; communicate needed equipment repairs or maintenance; keep work area free from debris and safety hazards.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with the Store Manager, Pharmacy Operations Manager, and local health care providers.
  • Attend weekly department manager meetings as assigned and share applicable information with pharmacy staff.
  • Maintain communications to the pharmacy staff from external sources.
  • Foster a positive and enthusiastic environment to retain associates and customers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer and Company information.

Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and drug testing as required.
  • Current license in good standing in the state(s) in which to practice.
  • Current and active immunizing pharmacist certification.
  • Complete knowledge of state and Federal laws pertaining to pharmacy practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, associates, other health care professionals, and the community.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and provide direction to associates.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Authorization to fill Medicare and Medicaid prescriptions.
Physical Requirements
  • Accurate and efficient typing skills.
  • Stand 100% of the time with occasional walking short distances.
  • Work with computer screen/keyboard/mouse/biometric scanner continuously.
  • Handle a variety of containers and count pills/capsules; use related equipment.
  • Clerical accuracy, mathematical skills, and ability to use a cash register.
  • Frequent use of staplers, calculators, and computer systems.
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, lifting, and carrying up to 20 lb.
  • Bending at the knees and waist up to 30% of the work day.
  • Schedule may vary with shifts up to 12 hours per day and up to 5 days a week.
  • Visual acuity and audio capability to process prescriptions and assist customers by phone and in person.
Preferred Requirements
  • Process prescriptions accurately or supervise others in the process in accordance with laws, ethical standards, and Company policies.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and patient counseling in prescription and OTC medications, durable medical equipment, and other health care needs.
  • Act as a liaison between the store, healthcare professionals, patients, and law enforcement.
  • Comply with state and Federal laws pertaining to pharmacy practices; adhere to Company standards of practice.
