Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our comprehensive Laboratory Services team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to quality patient care while using your expertise in a clinical laboratory setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, possess strong organizational skills, and excel in providing exceptional customer service across diverse patient populations.
Key Responsibilities- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for patients of all ages, including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings
- Execute comprehensive laboratory support functions, including clerical procedures, test order processing, specimen preparation and labeling, and coordination with reference laboratories while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
- Provide front‑line customer service through patient interaction, telephone communication, appointment coordination, and professional patient care that demonstrates age‑appropriate sensitivity and communication techniques
- Maintain laboratory operations through equipment monitoring, inventory management, bio‑hazardous waste disposal, glassware management, and adherence to all safety and infection control protocols
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum three months of phlebotomy experience required, preferably in a hospital setting; phlebotomy certification or registration with the appropriate agency preferred
- Strong background in medical terminology with demonstrated computer proficiency and mathematical skills
- Excellent communication and customer relations abilities with proven capacity to handle multiple priorities and work effectively with patients under stress
- Physical capability to lift patients, demonstrate manual dexterity for equipment handling, and maintain near visual acuity for accurate instrument readings
