Job Title
The individual provides reception at the front desk, completes clerical duties as assigned and supports Referral Office operations under the direct guidance of the Referral Coordinator.
Responsibilities- Greets patients and guests for admission, directs and redirects patients and patrons to the appropriate location within the hospital and professional building
- Receives incoming phone calls and appropriately assesses the needs of the caller and processes requests, takes messages or transfers calls as indicated
- Monitors incoming faxes regularly and reviews each to determine the proper course of action in a timely manner.
- Monitors referral work queues for internal and external referrals. Processes new referrals according to established procedures and tracks queue status to ensure that referrals are completed.
- Looks up, interprets and documents insurance eligibility and benefits accurately
- Completes insurance authorizations and pre certifications for inpatient hospitalizations under the direction of the Referral Coordinator. Assures the appropriate level of care is obtained and correctly documented, and facilitates communication between providers and insurance company for timely decision.
- Supports providers and staff in addressing patient questions/concerns, and takes messages or redirects questions and concerns as indicated.
- Implements and monitors DH policies and procedures. Participates in initiatives to improve the referral management process.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent with 1 year experience in provider office.
- Must have prior computer experience, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate with providers, staff, patients, visitor's and insurance plan representatives a must.
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks
- Must be a receptive learner
- Ability to work independently, effectively work with others, maintain confidentiality and follow hospital policies effectively
- Medical Knowledge/Medical background preferred.
- Prior Insurance knowledge preferred
