Overview

We are recruiting a Director of Psychology & Recovery Services for the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital, accountable for clinical governance, program execution, and multidisciplinary coordination. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role sets hospital strategy and professional standards; leads selection, training, evaluation, and assignment of psychologists and senior recovery services clinicians ; and partners closely with psychiatry on multidisciplinary treatment teams.

The Director ensures regulatory compliance for clinical services, provides clinical consultation and assessment expertise, and drives goals, outcomes, and quality aligned with Department of Mental Health Agency of Human Services practices (customer service, holistic service, strengths-based relationships, results orientation). The position also leads cross-agency coordination with Designated Agencies and hospital programs, contributes to program development (including specialized procedures and grant/research initiatives), participates in hospital committees, and provide supervision of interns.

This position, Director of Psychology and Recovery Services (Job Requisition #55538), is open to all State employees and external applicants.

Candidates, including current State employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, or persons exercising re-employment rights, must pass a fingerprint supported background investigation applicable to the position. Additionally, in accordance with AHS Policy 4.02 - Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates.

Hiring managers will notify applicants who are in the final stage of the interview process of the finger-printing and background check requirement, to which an applicant must agree to be deemed eligible for this position. Applicants will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted.

Duties are performed mainly in either an office or clinical setting at a state-operated facility, designated hospital or community-based services and programs. Direct interaction with clients who are identified as having major mental illness, behavior management support needs, and may be at risk of harm to self or others. Although regular duty hours apply, emergency situations may require incumbent's presence at any time.

Other special assignments may involve performance outside of regular work hours. The potential of physical harm from unpredictable, emotionally disturbed individuals is present, but of limited probability.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of licensure as a Psychologist-Doctorate in Vermont AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in clinical psychology INCLUDING one (1) year or more involving treatment of emotionally disturbed clients.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing graduate school instruction

Experience training interns

Experience in program development and evaluation

Experience in conducting empirical research.
