Location: East Montpelier
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Generalist – Night Shift | Vermont
A hospital located in Vermont, approximately one hour from Montpelier, is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) to join its laboratory team.
This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional with strong generalist experience and Blood Bank experience. The ideal candidate will be ASCP certified and comfortable working independently on the night shift.
Schedule- Full-time, permanent position
- 40 hours per week
- Night shift
- Overnight laboratory schedule
- Schedule may include weekends and holidays based on department needs
- $30.10–$43.89/hour, based on experience and qualifications

- Perform clinical laboratory testing across multiple laboratory departments as a generalist.
- Perform accurate and timely testing according to established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
- Perform Blood Bank testing and procedures according to established protocols.
- Process, evaluate, and analyze patient specimens while maintaining proper specimen identification and handling.
- Review and verify laboratory results for accuracy.
- Identify abnormal, critical, or unexpected results and follow appropriate procedures for investigation and reporting.
- Perform quality control testing and document corrective actions as required.
- Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Communicate critical laboratory results promptly to the appropriate clinical team.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Prioritize testing based on clinical urgency while maintaining appropriate turnaround times.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Maintain laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment as required.
- Follow all laboratory safety, infection control, regulatory, and compliance procedures.
- Work independently and collaboratively to support quality patient care.
- Perform other laboratory duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required, as applicable.
- MT/MLS ASCP certification required.
- Blood Bank experience required.
- Generalist laboratory experience strongly required.
- Previous hospital laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory testing procedures and quality standards.
- Ability to work independently on the night shift.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to laboratory quality and patient safety.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week on an overnight schedule.
