Building & Landscape Facilities Maintenance

Year Round

Year Round | Full Time | $37,500 - $45,000 (with housing)

Position Title: Buildings and Landscape Onsite Coordinator (internal job title)

Supervisor: Buildings and Landscape Manager

Supervises: Seasonal staff

Employee Status: Year-round, full time / salary

Location: In-person, Shelburne, VT

Time Commitment: Typical 5 and a half days, including on-call and weekends and holidays

Salary Range: $37,500 - $45,000 (includes on-site housing for employee and immediate family, if applicable)

We are seeking someone for this hands‑on facilities maintenance role who is excited by the opportunity to support all aspects of operating a large, complex working educational campus that is open for community activities. Working with the Buildings and Landscape Manager, and grounds and facilities teams, you’ll perform diversified duties to support the farm’s education, visitor, and community programs, and troubleshoot, improve, repair, protect, and maintain campus facilities and equipment operations.

An additional important function of this position is to serve as an on‑site emergency response person.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate and facilitate set-up preparation and breakdown for Farm and community events, functions, and programs (program committee).
    • Weather monitoring, traffic management, parking, event set-up and take-down
  • Assist the Buildings and Landscape Manager and Shelburne Farms team with 24/7 coordination and support for day to day campus stewardship, operating systems, and services to advance the nonprofit’s mission and goals.
  • Provide emergency first response and support accident prevention, building and life safety, and security support for guests, residents, and staff
    • Serve as emergency on‑site manager (working with emergency response coordinator)
    • Oversee surveillance systems
  • Winter road maintenance, snow removal from walkways, inn maintenance during open season, etc.
  • Serve as the buildings maintenance lead for certain campus facilities as designated by the Buildings and Landscape Manager.
  • Assist with planning and cost management of buildings and landscape maintenance.
Core Qualifications (All candidates must meet these qualifications to be considered for the position)
  • Relevant education and work experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, H.V.A.C., and building trades
  • Able to work independently as needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Computer and internet proficiency to include Google Suite tools
  • Level head in stressful situations
  • Able to work longer weeks during peak demand periods and flexible to work evenings, weekends, holidays
Additional Valued Qualifications (Helpful for success in this role, but not required to apply)
  • Certifications: Certifications such as a Journeyman Plumber, Electrical, or HVAC License are helpful but not required for this role.
