Tool Maker
Full Time MIchigan, Fair Haven, MI, US
The Tool Maker is responsible for designing, fabricating, and repairing precision tools and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. This role requires a high degree of skill and technical knowledge, along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. The Tool Maker will work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to the optimization of production efficiency and quality assurance.
Duties/Responsibilities- Tool Design and Fabrication:
Create, modify, and enhance tools and fixtures based on engineering specifications, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards. - Machining Operations:
Operate various machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate tool components with precision. - Inspection and Testing:
Conduct thorough inspections of finished tools and fixtures using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with design specifications. - Maintenance and Repairs:
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on tools and machinery, troubleshooting issues as they arise to minimize downtime. - Collaboration:
Work closely with engineers and production staff to understand tool requirements and provide input on process improvements and cost reduction measures. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of tool designs, modifications, inspections, and maintenance activities, ensuring all documentation meets regulatory and company standards.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in operating machine tools and using precision measuring instruments; familiarity with CAD software is an asset. - Problem‑Solving Ability:
Strong analytical skills with the capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively and efficiently. - Attention to Detail:
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work to ensure the highest quality standards are met. - Communication
Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate within a team and convey technical information clearly.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or apprenticeship in tool making or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tool making or a similar role, with a demonstrated ability to work with various materials and tool types.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
