About this position
Control Room Operator position available in operating a 22 MW wood fired boiler - electrical power producer.
Responsible for carrying out the duties related to safe, proper and efficient plant operation of power generation equipment in accordance with industry standards, Environmental permitting and facility procedures. To include but not limited to operating the following; turbine generator set, steam boilers, fluid pumps, air compressors, conveyor belt systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying system, chemical testing and injecting systems, mobile equipment and other equipment.
Control Room Operator Oversees and directs the duties of Steam Plant Operator.
Rotating shift position reports to:
Operations Supervisor
- Operate the facility from the DCS in the control room and from within the plant as required by circumstances.
- Responsible to report and keep the appropriate personnel informed by communicating verbally and in writing all pertinent information amongst the shift, between shifts, production support personnel and management personnel.
- Learn and understand the operation of each piece of plant equipment and its normal operating condition.
- Understand the operation and maintain normal operating conditions of all steam generation and ancillary equipment.
- Be aware of the present operating condition of each piece of plant equipment by performing scheduled rounds and other rounds as outlined in shift procedures.
- Responsible for knowing Site Safety Manual and following all safety procedures and reporting any unsafe condition or acts to your supervisor.
- Responsible for knowing all state, federal and site environmental limits and following procedures to maintain them. Making and reporting conditions or irregularities to your supervisor.
- Responsible for knowing and following the Operations Procedures Manual, the Casualty Procedures Manual and any updates or revisions to these manuals.
- Responsible for performing maintenance corrective action of any abnormal operating condition to rectify the problem if it is within the ability to be performed safely and properly.
- Understand the operation and maintain normal operating conditions of all wood fuel unloading, processing and conveying equipment.
- Understand the operation and maintain normal operating conditions of all ash systems as needed to produce spec ash.
- Responsible for performing assigned maintenance tasks as directed by the Operations Supervisor.
- Review and direct the regular and routine testing & treatment of boiler water and cooling system water as required.
- Responsible for vacation/emergency relief as defined by the schedule.
- Responsible for routinely attending and completing all required training programs to include safety, environmental and industry related.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive attitude, professional, respectful and courteous behavior, motivation, initiative, cooperation and participation.
- Acts as a team member with all employees while complying with all policies and procedures.
- Position will be assigned further responsibilities including, but not limited to, certain maintenance/housekeeping and administrative tasks deemed appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

RequirementsBasic Requirements:
- Required to have a valid driver's license, required to have a telephone.
- Required to work a varied/rotating schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Required to be on call as needed/deemed necessary by Supervisor.
- Required to provide relief and support in other job classifications as needed.
- Must be able to personally respond to plant emergencies.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, drawing, technical manuals, etc.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
- Must be able to operate a computer terminal and basic software.
- Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication.
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing, sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, silo and the like as required); stooping; squatting; crouching; crawling; kneeling; reaching; grasping; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50lbs); feeling; talking and hearing.
- Required to accurately read and interpret instruments, gauges, P&s and manuals.
- Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space as required.
- Must be physically capable of performing demanding work at various heights and in adverse conditions during operations, shutdowns, and in fire/emergency activities.
- Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.
- Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test.
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
