This position will provide garden coordination, resident engagement, educational workshops, volunteer management, and community partnership development. Establish systems for tracking participation and outcomes to help Rural Edge create a more sustainable, organized, and resident-driven program that can continue to grow for years to come! Rural Edge strengthens Northeast Kingdom communities one home at a time. Rural Edge envisions Northeast Kingdom communities where every individual can live in stable, affordable housing with access to the services they need to live a healthy and prosperous life.
This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board Ameri Corps (VHCB Ameri Corps). The VHCB Ameri Corps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. This position is Full Time:
Requires 1,720 hours for an average of 40 hours per week for 47 weeks. Member will receive a living allowance of $31,000 (pre-tax) for the service term. Member will receive an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service.
- Coordinate development, implementation, and support of Rural Edge's community garden program
- Develop seasonal garden plans and coordinate planting, maintenance, harvesting, preparation with residents, volunteers, and staff
- Engage residents in garden activities and encourage resident leadership and participation
- Plan and facilitate educational workshops related to gardening, food, nutrition, food access
- Secure garden resources, supplies, educational programming, and technical assistance related to the program
- Visit with Rural Edge properties throughout the service area to coordinate garden activities, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and more
- Maintain records of resident engagement and garden events to track outcomes and expand the program
- Support the development of systems to enhance program sustainability
- Participate in an Independent Service Project and in all VHCB Ameri Corps Trainings, Service Days, Events, and Program Initiatives.
