Saint Johnsbury School District is seeking a Licensed Nursing Assistant to add to the health team for the next school year. The district serves more than 1,000 students, Pre‑K through 8th grade, and tuition high school students to several area public and independent high schools. There are approximately 550 students in Pre‑K to Grade 8 and about 200 full‑time employees all in one school.

The district offers an excellent outdoor educational space, new playgrounds and a dedicated team with an emphasis on employee wellness.

Salary: $22.41 to $25 per hour

This position works 175 school days, 4 professional development days, and 8 paid holidays. It includes 12 sick days, 2 emergency days, 3 personal days, and 5 bereavement days.

The Licensed Nursing Assistant supports the health and wellness of students in a public school setting by providing direct nursing care, assisting with health‑related tasks, and promoting a safe and healthy environment. An LNA works under the license of the School Registered Nurse and follows Vermont State Board of Nursing – LNA Scope of Practice rules.

• Assist in monitoring and documenting assigned students’ health conditions.
• Assist students with personal care and toileting needs.
• Administer medications and treatments as delegated by the School Registered Nurse and in accordance with school policies.
• Provide first aid and emergency care as delegated by the School Registered Nurse.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records for assigned students.
• Document and report any changes in student status to the student services director; if it is a medical change, report to the School Registered Nurse.
• Assist with completion of forms and paperwork for state and federal requirements.
• Communicate effectively with students, student services staff, directors, and teachers to support student needs.
• Follow all safety protocols and health regulations.
• Participate in training and professional development to stay updated on best practices and regulations as assigned by supervisor.

• Current certification as a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) in Vermont.
• Previous experience in a healthcare or school setting preferred.
• Certified in infant, child and adult first aid and CPR.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

• Ability to move quickly and efficiently around the school environment.
• Capability to assist students with moving, lifting, or transferring as needed; training by a physical therapist is required yearly.
• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry objects, including medical supplies and equipment, up to 50 pounds with two‑person transfers.
• Capacity to help lift and support students who may need physical assistance as delegated by the School Registered Nurse.
• Skilled in performing tasks that require fine motor skills such as administering medications and using medical equipment.
• Capacity to endure the physical demands of a busy school environment, including long periods of activity and occasional physical exertion.
• Ability to respond promptly to emergencies that may require physical effort.
• Adequate vision to read documents and monitor students; sufficient hearing to communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and infection control procedures, wearing protective gear as needed.
• Good physical health to manage the demands of the role and reduce the risk of injury or illness.
• Capability to manage stress and remain calm in emergency or high‑pressure situations; ability to handle emotional stress associated with working with students who have health issues or emergencies.
