About this position

Make a meaningful impact in your community at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH), where your nursing expertise supports safe, efficient care in our Day Surgery Unit.

About This Role

As a Day Surgery RN at NVRH, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing surgical and procedural interventions in both the pre-operative and post-anesthesia (Phase II recovery) settings.

Working in a fast-paced perioperative environment, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient flow from admission through discharge while maintaining a strong focus on patient experience, safety, and regulatory compliance. Day Surgery nurses, once trained, may also serve as a second nurse in PACU and may float to Pain Management as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver pre-operative care including assessment, preparation, and patient education, as well as post-anesthesia Phase II recovery and discharge readiness evaluation
  • Monitor patient condition, identify changes, and communicate effectively with providers to ensure safe, timely care
  • Ensure accurate documentation, review diagnostic results, and provide discharge instructions and follow-up guidance
  • Collaborate with surgical, anesthesia, and perioperative teams to optimize patient flow and support efficient daily operations
  • Uphold patient safety and regulatory standards, including adherence to AORN, ASPAN, CMS, and organizational protocols
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved RN School of Nursing
  • Current Vermont or multi-state RN license required
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • ACLS required (or ability to obtain during orientation)
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred; ambulatory surgery, perioperative, or acute care experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
Benefits
  • Student loan repayment and tuition reimbursement
  • Generous paid time off
  • Complimentary local gym membership
  • Affordable and comprehensive health, dental, and vision plan choices
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Additional employee perks

Build a meaningful career in a collaborative surgical setting where your attention to detail, clinical judgment, and commitment to patient safety make a direct and lasting impact.
