Job Summary

We seek a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care primarily for adult patients, with occasional pediatric cases, in a dynamic Med/Surg unit. The RN will coordinate patient care, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and utilize the Nursing Process to address the physiological, spiritual, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients. This role requires acute care expertise and a commitment to delivering compassionate, holistic care in a rural hospital setting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide skilled nursing care to adult and occasional pediatric patients in a general Med/Surg unit.
  • Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care.
  • Utilize the Nursing Process to make critical decisions tailored to patients' unique needs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and clinical observations.
  • Work closely with the Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Lead, and Nursing Supervisor to support unit operations.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training activities.
Required Skills & Certifications
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Vermont or multi-state licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Reliable personal transportation due to rural location and lack of public transit.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
  • Experience with Meditech electronic health record system.
  • Previous Med/Surg unit experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse patient population including outpatient, observation, and swing bed care.
Special Considerations
  • Position is based in a rural hospital setting in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom with limited public transportation; personal vehicle required.
  • Occasional pediatric patients may be encountered, but this is primarily an adult Med/Surg unit.
  • Collaborative work environment with accountability to Unit Director and Clinical Nurse Lead.
  • Housing is the responsibility of the candidate; a housing resource list is provided.
Scheduling
  • Day shift schedule primarily, with shifts assigned according to unit needs.
  • Work in a 25-bed critical access hospital with a focus on providing primary, preventive, surgical, specialty, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care.
