NKHS is a Designated Agency contracted with the State of Vermont to provide the highest quality of service in the areas of adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, children and youth with serious emotional disabilities, and adults with mental health and substance use challenges. We serve the populations of Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans counties through a wide variety of targeted programs for individuals of all ages.

NKHS has employees providing case management, community and home supports, residential care, psychiatry, medication management, therapy, vocational supports, school based counseling, emergency care, and respite services. These services are provided annually to nearly 4,000 of our local community members, helping them overcome challenges and achieve health in mind, body, and spirit.

Registered Nurse

Seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide nursing support for residential programs serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This role partners closely with program leadership, direct support staff, residents, families, and healthcare providers to ensure high-quality care, regulatory compliance, and positive health outcomes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide nursing oversight to five licensed residential facilities serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
  • Provide nursing consultation, assistance, training, monitoring and delegation of medication administration procedures to staff of the facilities in accordance with applicable regulations from the State of Vermont Division of Licensing and Protection (DLP).
  • Responsible for the completion of Resident Assessments in accordance with applicable licensing regulations.
  • Responsible for the development and monitoring of nursing care plans and protocols for residents in the Licensed Residential Program in accordance with applicable state, federal, program and agency standards.
  • Responsible for the development and monitoring of various special care procedures for individuals served by the DS program. The Registered Nurse will provide training and delegate staff, as appropriate, to implement the procedures.
  • Function as part of individual clients' support team as appropriate. Assist in the development and implementation of the client's Individual Support Agreement when indicated.
  • Provide training to staff on nursing-related topics including but not limited to CPR, first aid, universal precautions, Vermont Health and Wellness Guidelines (issued by the Developmental Disabilities Services Division (DDSD)), infection control, etc. as requested.
  • Liaison with guardians, families, other community health providers, DLP staff, DDSD Quality Services Review nurse, and NKHS personnel to promote quality services and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Vermont.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
