A Senior Land Clearing Specialist is responsible for leading crew members, assigning tasks without supervision, and ensuring successful task completion and production goals. Must possess knowledge of tree biology, species identification, proper land clearing techniques, and safe operation of land clearing tools and equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting, operating, and maintaining equipment like chippers and side by sides, supporting operators with basic skills, and applying herbicides.
The role requires physical fitness, comfort working in challenging terrain and weather, proficiency with climbing gear, effective communication skills, and the ability to train and mentor employees.
Expectations for Senior Land Clearing Specialist:
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures, site safety rules, PPE usage, and hazard awareness.
- Execute assigned tasks independently, guide crew members, and meet production targets.
- Collaborate effectively with teams and provide instructions without supervision.
- Operate hand tools and small equipment safely and proficiently.
- Support employee development through training and mentoring.
- Safely remove trees and brush, demonstrating proficiency in climbing techniques.
- Identify hazards, wetlands, endangered species, and protect sensitive features.
- Complete daily paperwork and maintain equipment properly.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and proper equipment care.
- Commit to ongoing training and certifications as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned and be prepared for physically demanding work.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain driver qualifications screening.
- Currently pursuing Class A CDL preferred.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience as a Land Clearing Ground Specialist II or similar role.
- Strong communication, map reading, GPS/GIS skills, and flexibility.
- Ability to work weekends, nights, and travel as required.
- Proficiency in math, reading, and computer skills, including data entry and applications.
- Knowledge of tree biology, climbing techniques, equipment operation, and customer service skills.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED and Flagger certifications, along with safety and environmental training.
- Licensed pesticide/herbicide applicator.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and traverse difficult terrain while carrying up to 30 pounds, covering 5-10 miles daily.
- Lift and carry objects up to 80 pounds, with sufficient strength, balance, and stamina.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
