Retail Food Services Supervisor directly responsible for all cafeteria/snack bar/pizzeria/coffee shop/deli functions including food purchasing, preparation and maintenance of quality standards; sanitation and cleanliness; training of employees in methods of cooking, preparation, presentation, portion and cost control and sanitation and cleanliness.
This position will start at the end of November
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)- Required to attend Liquor Control Board Seminar.
- Organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of others.
- Responsible for the use of leftover food to minimize waste.
- Conducts daily quality checks of food items before service.
- Inspects kitchen and dining area to ensure sanitary standards.
- Assigns and coordinates work of employees
- Maintains effective communication with customers and staff.
- Controls product turnover/waste.
- Responsible for the opening and closing of each facility.
- Oversees the quality of all hot food items and daily specials.
- Responsible for monthly inventory.
- Prepares daily orders of product.
- Able to fill in for any position in the outlet when busy or if an employee misses work.
- Knowledge of quantity of food preparation to minimize waste.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related, or unrelated to original position.
Directly supervises 10-12 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEOne-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Order processing systems and Spreadsheet software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust be Vermont Department of Liquor Control and Serv Safe certified. Opportunity to attend the seminar will be provided in some cases.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONSMust be at least 18 years of age.
