Location & Travel
Remote (virtual) but must be located within the geographic territory of Mineral Point, WI. 15% overnight travel plus daily travel within the assigned geography.
Responsibilities- Calling on dairy owners and other livestock producers (cattle, horse, small ruminant) to evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend nutritional solutions.
- Consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 calls per week) with the goal of selling Purina products and programs, increasing sales and market share.
- Developing new prospects and making sales cold calls.
- Organizing and conducting effective educational meetings and events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, veterinarians, trainers, and lifestyle show clubs to enhance Purina’s brand image and build co‑op/dealer traffic.
- Performing on‑farm interactions in all‑weather conditions, including walk‑throughs and animal evaluations.
- Networking within the industry to connect producers and generate additional business opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a related agricultural field.
- For candidates without a bachelor’s degree, proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
- Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to the dairy market.
- Understanding of animal husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines.
- Work/life experience in management and care of dairy.
- Strong background and previous professional experience with dairy.
- Leadership position in livestock industry clubs/organizations.
- Previous sales experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, strong organization, and time‑management skills.
- High internal drive, natural ability for relationship building, and leadership in a team environment.
- Ability and drive to make multiple daily sales calls to customers and prospects.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Solid public speaking skills.
- Competent in providing accurate feeding and management recommendations.
- Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office; ability to be trained on ration‑balancing software (Herd Smart), Salesforce, etc.
Base salary $59,000–$66,000, dependent on experience/tenure, plus commission driven by individual performance. Salary range for this role is $53,000 – $72,500; candidates are typically offered a pay rate near the middle of the range.
