Outside Sales Representative

Overview

Gordon Food Service is North America’s largest family‑operated broadline food distribution company, serving restaurants, healthcare, and other food service customers. This role supports customers and drives growth as an Outside Food Sales Representative based in Milton, WV.

• Prospecting and New Business
  • Research industry and market trends affecting restaurants in the territory.
  • Identify and research prospective customers.
  • Develop and present sales strategies highlighting GFS products, services, and value.
• Existing Customer Management
  • Visit customers on a weekly, bi‑weekly, or monthly schedule.
  • Conduct business reviews to assess needs and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Provide ongoing training on GFS product offerings.
  • Identify cross‑sell and up‑sell opportunities within current accounts.
• Territory Management
  • Balance new customer acquisition with deepening existing relationships.
  • Coordinate visits and manage order status and processing updates.

The program includes e‑learning, classroom sessions, video role‑plays, job shadowing, and peer mentorship. Topics cover:

• Using GFS systems, processes, and tools for customer relationships.
• Overview of products available to customers.
• The sales process for engaging new customers.
• Building relationships within the GFS network.
• Best practices in relationship and territory management.

• High School diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree or culinary certificate preferred.
• At least 1 year of sales, business, or food service experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain required food safety certification.

• Candidates currently employed by a GFS customer must provide a letter of support from their manager.
