THE ROLEThe Lumber Sales Manager is responsible for driving lumber and building materials sales while ensuring the operational execution supports growth. This is a hands‑on leadership role that blends:
- Outside sales & relationship building
- Yard and delivery oversight
- Vendor and inventory management
You’ll work closely with contractors, builders, and internal teams—owning the full lifecycle from first conversation to final delivery

- Build and grow a strong contractor and builder network
- Develop a consistent sales pipeline through proactive outreach and job site visits
- Review plans, complete accurate take‑offs
, and deliver competitive quotes - Identify upsell opportunities and product alternatives
- Maintain follow‑up discipline to win and retain business
- Ensure yard operations are aligned with sales priorities and efficiency
- Coordinate delivery schedules and workload planning
- Oversee (and occasionally support) equipment operation including forklifts and Moffetts
- Maintain organization, safety, and workflow across yard operations
- Monitor inventory levels, product movement, and margins
- Partner with vendors on product selection, buybacks, and new opportunities
- Stay ahead of seasonal demand trends and key SKUs
- Recommend purchasing strategies based on real‑time market conditions
- Manage performance using sales data, margin, and P&L insights
- Adjust pricing, purchasing, and sales strategies to drive profitability
- Provide input on market trends and competitive positioning
- 5+ years of experience in lumber, building materials, or construction sales
- Strong estimating skills (plan reading and take‑offs required)
- Experience leading or managing yard and/or delivery operations
- Proven ability to work with vendors and negotiate product opportunities
- Background in inventory management and purchasing decisions
- Established contractor or builder relationships in your market
- Deep understanding of lumber products, pricing, and seasonal demand
- A proactive,
hunter mentality
