On Call Advocate - CVOEO Family Shelter

Overview

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) invites you to join a new Family Shelter in Chittenden County, Vermont. The Family Shelter will be a 24/7 shelter for 8 to 10 families with children experiencing homelessness.

• Provide client-centered, trauma-informed support to families experiencing homelessness with the goal of empowering them to access safe, sustainable housing.
• Help families secure housing and access essential benefits; refer to employment, medical, mental health, and substance use disorder services.
• Address barriers to housing and collaborate with partner agencies to address those barriers.
• Work with families to promote a sense of community; maintain a flexible schedule and local travel as required.
• On-call role as part of the position.

• Bachelor’s degree in social or human services or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with families and children experiencing homelessness or living in economic poverty; knowledge of causes/effects of homelessness, affordable housing, poverty, economic justice and multiple oppress ions affecting economically vulnerable groups.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, access to reliable transportation, and willingness/ability to travel within the CVOEO service area.
