Driving Requirements

Applicants must have a valid state driver’s license, a safe driving record, and at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger. The driving experience must have taken place in the United States, its possessions or territories, or U.S. military installations worldwide. A personal vehicle suitable for use may be required for this position.

Compensation: $20.38 per hour paid bi‑weekly.

Carry, deliver, and collect mail along a prescribed rural route using a vehicle and provide customers on the route with a variety of services.

• Sort mail in delivery sequence for the assigned route.
• Receive and sign for accountable mail.
• Load mail in vehicle.
• Deliver mail to customers along a prescribed route and on a regular schedule by vehicle; collect monies and receipts for accountable mail; pick up mail from customer roadside boxes.
• Sell stamps, stamped paper, and money orders; accept C.O.D., registered, certified, and insured mail and parcel post; furnish routine information concerning postal matters and provide requested forms to customers.
• Return mail collected, undeliverable mail, and submit monies and receipts to post office.
• Prepare mail for forwarding and maintain records of change of address information.
• Prepare a daily trip report and maintain a list of the customers on the route.
• Conduct special surveys when required.
• Maintain an inventory of stamps and stamped paper as needed to provide service to customers on the route.
• Provide mail security at all times.

Rural Carrier Associates are non‑career employees who provide customers along a rural route a variety of services, including delivering and collecting mail and selling stamps, supplies, and money orders. Candidates may need a suitable vehicle and reside within easy commuting distance of the facility location. The job is physically demanding, performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather, and may require loading and unloading trays and containers of mail and parcels weighing as much as 70 pounds.

Work is available usually on Saturdays and on an as‑needed basis to cover absences.

Employment is conditional upon meeting medical suitability, general eligibility, and suitable background check requirements, even if early work is permitted.
