About:
This role sits within a next-generation electric aircraft programme focused on embedding safety at the core of both product development and operational lifecycle activities.
The organisation is developing and scaling a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) and Continued Operational Safety (COS) framework to support certification and long-term operational integrity. This includes integrating safety risk management across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and in-service operations.
The position is suited to engineers who operate comfortably across both technical and operational domains, with a focus on building practical, scalable safety processes. The work involves shaping safety culture, defining frameworks, and ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory expectations in a fast-moving aerospace environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Safety Management System (SMS) and Continued Operational Safety (COS) programmes
- Develop and maintain safety documentation including policies, manuals, and process definitions
- Define and implement safety analysis methodologies aligned with industry standards and regulatory guidance
- Lead hazard identification activities, safety risk assessments, and mitigation strategy development across engineering and operational domains
- Support the assessment and triage of in-service safety reports, identifying trends and feeding insights back into development and operational processes
- Contribute to the development and tracking of safety-related corrective action plans
- Define and monitor safety performance metrics, analysing data to identify emerging risks and control effectiveness
- Support regulatory engagement activities, including preparation for oversight and compliance reviews
- Develop and deliver safety training to drive adoption of safety processes and promote a strong safety culture
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer support teams
- Act as a subject matter resource for SMS and COS processes, supporting internal teams with best practices
Required Experience &
Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 5–10 years of experience in aerospace, product safety, or systems engineering environments
- Experience supporting the development and implementation of safety processes or programmes
- Strong understanding of safety risk management principles, including hazard identification and risk assessment
- Experience working cross-functionally across engineering and operational teams
- Ability to document technical processes, develop work instructions, and communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders
- Experience facilitating technical discussions and capturing safety or engineering analyses
Desirable /
Additional Qualifications:
- Direct experience working within a Safety Management System (SMS) in an aerospace environment
- Familiarity with Continued Operational Safety (COS) processes and in-service safety management
- Knowledge of FAA regulatory frameworks including 14 CFR Part 5 and Part 21.3
- Experience with hazard analysis methodologies and safety investigation processes
- Exposure to industry standards such as ARP
4754A, ARP
4761, or equivalent safety frameworks - Experience working with safety reporting systems, in-service data, or corrective action tracking tools
- Background supporting regulatory compliance activities or certification programmes
