OverviewThe Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspector is responsible for complex auditing and examination of financial statements, accounts, and records of private businesses for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The position is assigned ongoing responsibility for personally administering compliance reviews associated with DMV and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Program regulations in Vermont. This territory encompasses motor carriers and shippers of all types and sizes. In promoting and enforcing compliance with the applicable laws and regulations, the position acts independently within general program objectives and a largely self-developed and self-adjusted area work plan.
This position will work up to 20 hours per week.

- Temporary (Job Requisition #55576), is listed as a open to both internal and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.
Duties are performed in an office setting or in the field. The incumbent must drive a motor vehicle to and from assigned duties. The incumbent must maintain a valid State driver’s license to perform these official duties. Frequent travel is required. The incumbent must successfully pass all requirements associated with Vermont and FMCSA required auditor training and maintain required certifications. Significant pressure from deadlines is present.
Significant travel may be necessary, along with some evening or overtime work may be required. Some audit situations may assume a somewhat adversary nature, requiring significant tact and persistence to complete a successful audit.
Three (3) or more years of experience in commercial vehicle law enforcement, hazardous materials, Motor Vehicle commercial tax or licensing, paralegal, or Motor Vehicle registration.
Preferred QualificationsCurrent or previous certification in the federal North American Standard Truck Inspection program and the federal New Entrant Auditor program AND the ability to become certified after hire.
