Job Description

The Superintendent of the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union (WNESU) is actively seeking a strategic leader responsible for overseeing facility operations, preventive maintenance programs budgeting and safety compliance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in management, engineering, or related technical field preferred
  • Facilities Management Professional (FMP) or similar certification preferred
  • Eight (8) years of building maintenance experience, of which three (3) years shall have been full-time experience in a supervisory capacity over facilities maintenance and custodial personnel OR, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job. Experience in educational facilities planning is preferred.
  • Technical knowledge around incident command systems (ICS 100/200/700) preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders including administrators, school staff, board members and the community
  • Knowledgeable of the principles and practices of facility and property management and administration and strategic planning including purchasing, budgeting and fiscal management, including accurate record keeping
  • Knowledgeable about applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules and regulations and best practices around facilities management, risk management and health & safety, including OSHA/VOSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of incident command planning and procedures is a plus. Working knowledge of and the ability to provide oversight in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, gas fitting, HVAC, food cleaning and maintenance, painting, safety and crisis plans, and general maintenance of grounds, landscaping and facilities management. A trade certification in one of the above areas is preferred along with certifications in playground safety and asbestos.
  • Ability to understand and analyze detailed information and problem solve including suggesting and implement improvements for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness
  • Supervisory skills including the hiring, planning, assigning and directing work, and performance management of staff
  • Proficient with technology, including relevant software applications
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Hold, or have the ability to obtain, a Class II Water Certification in the State of Vermont
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive required due to travel between District schools
Position Summary

The Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Safety is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering all aspects of the facilities department, including buildings and grounds, maintenance and custodial operations, and the safety of all facilities and grounds for Windham Northeast Supervisory Union. This role responds to emergencies as needed and ensures that all facilities and outdoor spaces are maintained in optimal condition and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as School Board policies, to support a safe, efficient, and productive environment for students, staff, and the community.
