Fire Chief

The Town of Chester is seeking an experienced, visionary, and community-focused leader to serve as its next Fire Chief.

This is more than a department leadership position—it is an opportunity to shape the future of an organization that provides fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, emergency management, and public safety leadership for the communities of Chester and Andover.

As Fire Chief, you will lead a dedicated team of career and part-time personnel while fostering a culture centered on professionalism, training, safety, accountability, and service. Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Chief is responsible for strategic planning, budget development, policy implementation, personnel supervision, emergency response, regulatory compliance, and long-range organizational growth. The Chief also serves as the Town Fire Warden and plays a key role in municipal emergency management and community risk reduction.

The ideal candidate is an experienced fire service professional with strong leadership abilities, outstanding communication skills, and a passion for mentoring the next generation of firefighters and EMS providers. Candidates should possess extensive fire service experience, supervisory experience, Firefighter II certification (or equivalent), Fire Instructor I certification, Hazardous Materials Operations certification, Pumping Apparatus Driver Operator certification, and an active Paramedic license.

Fire Officer II certification and Vermont Critical Care endorsement are highly desirable. The successful candidate must be committed to maintaining the department’s high standards while embracing innovation and preparing the organization for future challenges.
