I​/L Fire & Watch - OR-Firemen​/Boiler

Operates & maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, generators, motors, turbines and steam boilers to provide utilities such as heat, blowers and steam for industrial processes.

• Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to observe operation conditions. Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases.
• Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operation ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or shut down equipment.
• Visually inspect equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
• Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.
• Oils & lubricates equipment, performs water titration tests, and pours chemical additives into treatment tank to prevent scale buildup and clean boiler lines.
• Records operation and maintenance actions during shift in operator's logbook.
• Boiler room operates 24 a day, 7 days a week. This requires a rotating shift by operators. The exception is when the plant is on a vacation shutdown.
• When the switchboard is shut down in the office after hours, all communications go through the Boiler room.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• This is a swing shift.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $18_ to $22, depending on experience.
